One series fails to capture the market – HTC sales still down by 20%

BGR reports HTC’s Ice Cream sandwich-powered One series consisting of the affordable One V, the dual-core One S, and quad-core One X have received good reviews. Sadly, the Taiwanese phone giant still struggles matching its sales figures of 2011.

Last year, HTC broke its sales records for six months. However, with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Apple’s iPhone 4S, HTC failed to hold on to its position. Although HTC has increased its month-on-month revenue in April by around £6 million, it is down by 20% compared to the same period last year (down by around £160 million).

It seems HTC’s problems are only beginning. It has a lot riding on its One series. However, with the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy S3 landing in stores on the 30th of May, the S3 is said to match or do even better than its predecessor the Galaxy S2. Again, HTC handsets will lose traction to its Korean rivals.

Furthermore, Apple is expected to unveil the much awaited iPhone 5 later during the year. Plus, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) and Blackberry 10 handsets are said to be released at around the same period. So it remains to be seen if HTC can get back in the game.

Do you think HTC’s One series will allow the Taiwanese firm to get back on top? Share your thoughts.
